Providing the power of effective
organization and communication
for the medical home.
The EMMA System is Everyone’s Medical Monitoring Assistant. It’s an essential tool kit for parents or guardians of children with complex medical conditions who will be cared for in the home following hospital discharge. The kit includes two binders of useful notes, tips and forms for families who find themselves in unfamiliar territory – that of caring for a child with special needs and coordinating the care with tracking, monitoring and documentation. The kit assists families with ensuring clear communication between caregivers and medical professionals who provide services to, and on behalf of, the child. It also covers a variety of other issues that the families may now face. An accompanying DVD provides an audio-visual element that helps families understand how to best use the EMMA System.
The EMMA System was developed by Julie Powers, a mother of a special needs child, who had eight years of hands-on, trial-and-error experience in the home, in the hospital, and in the clinic. This experience culminated in the creation of a product vital to the health and well-being of a child with complex medical issues, as well as the child’s family.
The EMMA System is written in a casual and comfortable tone that makes the users feel as if a helpful friend who has already been there is giving them hints on how to deal with a new and foreign situation that can otherwise be overwhelming and potentially very frightening and stressful.

For what diagnoses will the EMMA System work?
The EMMA System was developed to assist families of children with any diagnosis. Simply stated, that is why it is called Everyone’s Medical Monitoring Assistant. The only common denominator among the children is that each of them has a medical condition that requires ongoing medical care, multiple medications and/or therapies, and/or significant medical intervention and/or follow-up after they leave the hospital.
Disclaimer: The EMMA System is strictly an organizational tool. It is not intended to replace any professional medical advice, nor should any part of the kit be used as a medical recommendation. Nothing in the kit should replace any type of monitoring system provided by a medical professional, nor should it replace care directives from trained health professionals.

- Decreased “trial and error” time to sort out what works best for that family
- Better preparation for this new situation
- Greater sense of organization and control, thereby decreasing stress
- Parents feel like they’ve received the services of a personal consultant and that they (and their child) have been assisted in a helpful way
Designated Charity
- Every time an EMMA System is purchased, a portion of the profits will benefit one of the following charities: Ronald McDonald House Charities, Footprints or the Make A Wish Foundation. Read more...
- When a designated charity is not specified at the time an order is placed, management will select a charitable beneficiary from the three named organizations.
Medical Personnel
- Doctors, in-home nurses, therapists, and other medical personnel benefit from documentation and clear records for communicating with parents/caregivers for continuity of care
- When there is clear communication between the child's caregivers and the medical team, better health care outcomes are possible, such as more accurate diagnoses, more effective treatments, increased level of functionality and increased longevity
- Scheduled time with the child is used more effectively because office and/or home visits are more focused and the propensity for no-shows can decrease
The Hospital
- By providing a patient-focused tool, the child’s family appreciates the extra step the hospital has taken that recognizes the stressful situation they are in, thus developing a parent-hospital bond (when the kit is provided by the hospital)
- When the caregivers are informed and have a tool to document the care of their child and specific problems or questions, the information shared with the doctors and other health care providers is better directed – thus providing the medical team with more accurate information to diagnose and treat patients, potentially leading to better care and better outcomes. The hospital does a better job of treating the child's medical issues when given accurate and complete information from the patient's family.
